Following is a list of common dental emergencies:
- When you have toothache it is likely that the pain is coming from inside of the tooth. Under most circumstances this means that irritation is occurring in the pulp of your tooth. There may be several different reasons for this including a large cavity, tooth decay underneath an old filling, or maybe you have a crack in the tooth that has enabled bacteria to cause an infection.
If you have an infection in your tooth or on your gums, it almost always requires a root canal treatment. You may have an abscess that is beginning to drain and although it may not be extremely painful, it requires urgent care. An antibiotic by itself will not take care of the problem if the infection is inside the tooth or has stemmed from gum disease.
If you have broken a tooth, even though you may not be in immediate pain, it can be an aesthetic problem for you. Dental bonding is one way that we can repair your tooth so you don’t have to hide your smile. And if you are able to locate the broken part of the tooth, please bring it in with you. There are instances where we can bond it back into place. To learn more about this cosmetic treatment, please visit our tooth bonding page.
For an accident or traumatic injury that has broken or knocked out a tooth, we encourage you to act immediately. Give us a call and bring in the tooth. You can keep keep it in a moist towel or a glass of milk to help keep it alive. There is a chance we may be able to replant the tooth if we see you within a half an hour.
Don’t put it off any longer. Call us as soon as possible to schedule your emergency dentist appointment.
