Chicago Porcelain Veneers

Serving Illinois Patients in Chicago, Glenview, Evanston, Skokie, Northbrook, and Surrounding Areas

Porcelain veneers, also called laminates, can totally transform your smile. But what a lot of patients don’t realize is that placing them is an art and that it is important that the dentist doing them be artistically inclined.

That is why the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry developed their accreditation program. Since the artistic techniques of cosmetic dentistry aren’t taught in dental schools and aren’t required for licensure, they decided to create a credential where they would examine dentists for not only their knowledge and skill, but their artistic talent in creating beautiful smiles. Dr. William Cohen is one of a handful of dentists in the Chicago area who is accredited by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry.

Dr. Cohen’s Porcelain Veneer Beautiful Smile Guarantee

There are many dentists in the Chicago area who will create a new smile for you with porcelain veneers. But how do you know you’ll like the results? What if they’re put on permanently, but you don’t like how they look?

With Dr. William Cohen, you not only have the assurance that he has passed the rigorous accreditation examination of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, vouching for his skill and artistry, but he gives you a beautiful smile guarantee. The guarantee is this: Before the porcelain veneers are ever bonded on permanently, he will do a try-in that will let you see exactly how they will look. If you have any hesitation about their appearance, if you don’t completely love how they look, they will go back to the dental ceramist and be refined or even re-made until you do love them.

The Porcelain Veneer Procedure

Porcelain veneers are thin shells of porcelain designed to fit directly over your natural teeth. Bonded with advanced techniques that often are not taught in dental schools, they create a whiter, brighter, younger smile that you will be proud to show off. No more hiding your smile!

Chicago porcelain veneersTheir application is painless and easy, and can be completed in as few as two visits. It usually, but not always, involves shaving a small amount of enamel, about the thickness of a fingernail, from the front of the tooth, as shown in the diagram to the left. A master ceramist then makes them according to Dr. Cohen’s prescription for shade and shape. In the second appointment, they are tried on. If you love how they look, they bonded to your teeth, and you have a beautiful new smile!

Dr. Cohen can fix a wide variety of problems with porcelain veneers, including chips, cracks, gaps, crookedness, discoloration, and size inconsistencies. Many of our patients choose them as a convenient and affordable alternative to time-consuming orthodontic treatment.

Lumineers

Lumineers are a particular brand which we also offer. Dr. Cohen is certified to place Lumineers. To learn more about this procedure, please visit our Lumineers page.

Porcelain Veneers Pictures

Below is a sample case of a patient treated by Dr. Cohen.

Shown in the before image, this man’s teeth had spaces between them, they were a little crooked, and the color was slightly gray.

Conservative porcelain veneers bonded to the fronts of his teeth have solved all three problems.

Advantages of Porcelain Veneers

Dental porcelain is a glass-like substance which makes it highly resistant to staining. This means that (assuming good dental hygiene) your veneers will remain pearly and natural-looking for their long lifetime.

What makes porcelain veneers look like our natural teeth?

  • They absorb and reflect light in the same way your natural teeth do. Light enters our tooth enamel and reflects back off the layer underneath that, which is the dentin layer, a darker color than the enamel. In the same way, light enters the translucent porcelain and reflects back off the underlying dentin. As a result, both enamel and porcelain look shiny and attractive.
  • When Dr. Cohen designs your smile, he will give you the shade of teeth that you want. If there are some natural teeth that will still show when you smile, he will blend the shade so that it will be virtually impossible to tell the difference between your veneers and your natural teeth.

During your porcelain veneer consultation, Dr. Cohen will discuss the procedure and how you want your new smile to look. The smile will be designed according to your expectations, with the shape and color you want, to insure that you love it. That’s his goal—to create a smile that you absolutely love! During your next visit, Dr. Cohen will take an impression of your teeth. The unique impression is then sent to our lab for the custom creation of your new porcelain veneers. You will visit us one more time for the placement of your permanent porcelain veneers. Even though the veneers are wafer-thin, Dr. Cohen will attach them with a super strong bonding agent for a long lasting, durable result. When your last appointment is completed, you’ll be left with beautiful, natural-looking teeth!
